Bios
Violist Chiu-Chen Liu enjoys a diverse career in orchestra, chamber music and pedagogy. Born in Taiwan, recent performances include engagements with Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra Wernigerode (Germany), Cremona International Music Academy, Alion Baltic International Music Festival, BAMcafé Live, American Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra of St. Luke’s, Attacca Quartet and Lecture-Performance Series at Columbia University. Chiu-Chen has served as principal viola with the Greater Bridgeport Symphony, the Sarasota Opera, Di Capo Opera, Fairfield County Chorale Orchestra. Her chamber music performances have been broadcast on NPR and WQXR radio. The latest album Alto Under the Radar: Soviet Viola Music with pianist Ilya Kazantsev was released under Centaur Records.
Claire Chan, born in Detroit, graduated Magna Cum Laude from Brown University where she earned musical honors and a Sc.B. in Neuroscience. Changing course, she continued her studies on the violin at The Juilliard School. As a scholarship student of Joseph Fuchs, she completed both her master’s and doctoral degrees. She taught at the Juilliard School as an assistant to both Professor Fuchs and the Juilliard String Quartet and later served on the faculty in Beijing at the Central Conservatory and the Capital Normal University. Currently, Claire teaches at Third Street Music School Settlement and at the Chamber Music Center of New York. She performs regularly on Broadway shows, most notably Phantom of the Opera and Sweeney Todd. She is currently a member of The Harlem Chamber Players and The New York City Opera.
Yvonne Lau, a Sydney native, began playing piano at age three and has won numerous competitions, performing at venues like the Sydney Opera House, the Sydney Olympic Games, and Carnegie Hall. She earned her Associate and Licentiate of Music, Australia, and Licentiate of Trinity College, London, by age 15, before completing a Master’s degree at the Eastman School of Music under Barry Snyder. Yvonne teaches in New York City, with positions at Third Street Music School since 2011, Kaufman Music Center’s Special Music School, and as a substitute teacher at the Juilliard School and accompanist at the Manhattan School of Music.
